Debatewise debate DEBATE: SHOULD BAILOUT MONEY BE USED FOR BONUSES/CHRISTMAS PARTIES?

In recent time, money has become of upmost importance. We are all being old to keep our hands on our wallets and keep our spending to a minimum. Meanwhile, tax payer's money is allegedly going to be spent on bankers Christmas parties and their bonuses! Is this appropriate?

Bankers and their families are used to a certain life style

Yes, there is an economic crisis, but some normality has to pertain in the world. Most people are used to budgeting, and are used to earning relatively little. But these bankers and their families are used to having a lot of disposable income; they are used to having lavish Christmases. If the majority are going to get what they are used to, then the bankers and their families should also get what they are used to. Yes it is unfair, welcome to capitalism.

It will stimulate the economy

Recession is a strange time to live in. People need to save to pay their mortgages to avoid repossession, but in saving money, you are not spending. By not spending, retailers’ profits decrease. These retailers then find it economically unviable to keep all their members of staff and so they make redundancies. This then leaves more unemployed people who cannot afford to spend; who do not shop. And so the cycle continues.
How can we break this cycle? Give the bankers a massive profit. In turn, their families will shop. A new car perhaps. Retailers notice the increase in spending and so they will higher more staff, or at least will not sack any more members of staff.

It is one of the perks of the job

If a person has had their sight set to a career in banking, and has worked towards that career, whether through the academic route or by rising through the ranks. They would have worked hard with their eyes set on big bucks and yearly bonuses. It would be unfair to stop them receiving the benefits they had looked to receiving their whole lives. This economic crisis should not take away from the fact that they have worked hard to get where they are.

That money is needed elsewhere at the moment

Absolutely no! First and foremost, bailout money, as the name clearly suggests, is money provided by the taxpayers and not from the earnings of the banks’ businesses! As everybody knows, bailout money should be used sparingly to save the businesses from collapsing, and at the same time, to ascertain that bank employees are adequately compensated for their daily works. It is utterly foolish to still think about year-end bonuses and Christmas parties when the management should be worrying about the banks’ daily survival!

No on Bonuses

I believe all entry level positions should at least get a bonus but it needs to come out of the ceo’s pocket. Why should we pay for it. I won’t get one and I work my rear off. I don’t care tha the CEO’s are used to an extravigant christmas, they have plenty of money.

No one cares that the bankers are allowed to live the lives they have become accustomed to, none of the rest of us are living the lives we have become accustomed to either. It is PAST time that the rich realied they are no better than the rest of us.
